The most ancient traces of human presence in Veneto date back to Paleolithic. Hunted meat remains from 160.000 years ago were found in Quinzano. Deep in Neolithic developed the so called culture of "squared mouth pots" because of the special squared shape of mouths instead of the round one commonly used. By Bronze Age the density increased and stilt-houses settlements has spread through the plain area.
Southern zone of Garda lake become a steel production center while the north eastern Veneto begin to stand out developing the Cult of the Holy Waters. By Iron Age developed the culture of Paleoveneti. They got in touch with Etruscans and ended with Celtic invasions.
People of Veneto welcome Romans friendly because of common interests against Gauls and Romans paid them back giving to the area a role of favour within the Empire. The region was included in Regio X.
Barbaric invasions started splitting the region and Longobard time has begun.
